Day 6- Carriage Hill
It has been a very tiring week but, today we went to carriage hill. We started off the day with writing a narrative in the perspective of an object on a farm. I chose to write about a pig. In my narrative, I described what the pig would eat. In my story, I also had the pig be best friends with the daughter who lived on the farm. He would wait for the girl, Alice, every single day and hoped he would be able to go inside. After we wrote our blog post, we loaded onto the bus and headed to carriage hill. At carriage hill, my friends and I walked around the village and the houses that were there. We saw a blacksmith working too and I thought that was pretty cool. We walked a little bit farther and saw pigs and horses. The smell wasn’t delightful but, it was cool to see all of the farm animals. We also went to the machine graveyard and the human graveyard. They were interesting to look at. There was also a creek that we went to. All of us were pretty tired from all of the other field trips so, we headed over to eat lunch by the old fashioned store/candy shop. After we eat, most of just sat around and enjoyed the nice day. This morning and when we went to carriage hill I learned about life on a 19th-century farm. When we got packets about farm life this morning I learned about the different kind of jobs that children had on a farm. It was interesting to learn that everyone in the family was part of making the farm run smoothly. I think that living on a farm can help you live more deliberately. I think it could help you because you have to be focused on getting a lot done. You would have a lot of goals and jobs but also be surrounded by nature. By living on a farm you might be more grounded and in tune with nature and perhaps that would help you know your purpose. I think today was really good because it gave us a couple of minutes to relax and get back in tune with our emotions. See you tomorrow, only four days left on this journey!
Narrative in the Perspective of a Pig
Every morning I wake up to the smell of the slop that Farmer Cal gives me. I push up on my wobbly pink pig legs and head over to the slop. My favorite thing about farm life is the smell of slop on a sunny morning. It smells of satisfying food. The best kind of slop is the kind with lots of old fruit. After I eat the most delicious sleep, I sit and wait for my best friend. My best friend is Alice. Alice is only 10 years old, but I still love her. She has been giving me water since she was 5. I can’t believe we have been best friends for five years. Oh, look! Here she comes. I can smell her sent. She smells of crisp apples and wood. Alice helps clean all of the pigs but, I am her favorite. Don’t worry, she tells me it all the time. Alice opens up the fence and I run towards her. She scratches me and I honk at her, it’s our usual greeting. Throughout the day, I follow Alice around while she does her chores. She gathers the eggs from the chickens, waters the plants, and milks the cow. Then Alice has to go inside to do her inside chores. I always hate when she goes inside because that means I have to go back in my pen. I always struggle to go back in it so that Alice knows how much I hate and how much I love her. Every single day I hope that she will just let me go inside the house with her but, she never does. The sun sets as I sit in my pen with the other pigs. The days on the farm are long and exhausting. But, the smells keep me going along with, the wind in my little blotch of fur. Finally, Alice comes back to give us our dinner. She always stays in the pen with me for dinner. Tonight she got to stay with me a little bit longer. I fell asleep in her lap.
