On Day 1 we focused on what this STEMmersion was going to be like and what was in store for us.

Welcome to the Into the Woods STEMmersion
Today, I came into day 1 of the Into the Woods Stemmersion not knowing what to expect. I thought we might just go hang out outside a little bit and learn about nature. This Stemmersion is not like that though. The theme is to live deliberately. We were asked to right down a definition of what living deliberately looks like and I surprised myself by what I wrote. I said that living deliberately means to live with purpose, making choices that are bold. Living deliberately doesn’t involve wasting time so, you have to live with passion and be adventurous, but also wise. That really made me question if I am living deliberately. I took that question into account as the day went on. We also talked about the trips that we are going to go on in the coming days. I am actually really excited about being outside with friends as I reflect on living with purpose and passion. Later, we set up our nature blogs that we are going to keep up with in the coming days. Writing has always been fun for me so, I am excited to continue sharing my journey through these next few weeks. We learned about nature writing. Nature writing is when you write about the nature things you hear and see. When nature writing you write about the things that you feel because of the things that are around you. Another thing that was fun was when we went outside to take pictures for tomorrow. We got the chance to be in community with our friends while enjoying the water by the pond. While we were at the water, we were told to sit for just three minutes and listen to the things around us and just be still. Those three minutes gave me an opportunity to just sit and think calmly without interruption. I really enjoyed those three minutes. I think that having time to just sit and focus on the things around me and not the thoughts swirling in my mind gave me the chance to just relax. Normally, I do not like just sitting but, it was helpful today. Lastly, we did yoga to end the day. I learned that I am not that great at yoga but it was still relaxing to just lay on the mat and reflect on the day. I am excited for the new adventures that tomorrow will hold.
