Day 5- The Narrows
Today was filled with a lot of crazy things. We didn’t started off the day with poetry instead, we created nature field journals. In our journals we were supposed to have sketches of the different things that we saw at the narrows. I sketched a tree that had one of my friend’s hat on it. The sketch is at the bottom of my post. I also sketched and wrote descriptions of flowers and an owl. Before today, I didn’t know that I actually like nature sketching, it is really relaxing. After we set up our nature field journals, we headed onto the bus. When we got to the narrows, we had three stations we were supposed to. The first station was water testing. The second station was at the nature center. At the nature center we were supposed to sketch animals and write about them. The last stations was the rope swing into the river that was optional. My group started by going to the water testing. There we tested the water that was in the river and found that it was pretty normal. Water testing is really important because it can help you make sure that the water around you is healthy and clean. After we did water testing, we took a very long hike back to where the bus was. Then, we headed to the nature center to sketch animals. At the nature center, I sketched an owl and a few flowers and plants. I noticed a lot more when I took time to actually sketch things. I realized how detailed the plants that surrounded me were. As we hiked back to the bus from the nature center, I noticed that there were a lot of different smells in the woods. Sometimes the woods smelled of flowers and other times it smelled of wood. Then we ate lunch, which was really fun. A fun thing about stemmersion is that I get to hang out with my friends at lunch. We all ate lunch really fast so that we could go on the rope swing into the water. I decided to stay out of the water because of how cold it was. Lizzie and I hung our hammock up by the rope swing. While we were down by the water I sketched an image of a tree with Justin’s hat on it. That was my favorite sketch that I did today. It was crazy seeing all of the kids climbing up onto a muddy tree to jump off into freezing cold water. But, it was really funny too. Today was a good day and I am excited for tomorrow.
